OK, I'm going to try to get back into at least semi-regular postings here... wow, it's been over a year. :( Let's get right to it...
Today is November 2nd, and i'm half-watching Game 5 of the World Series (out 3 in the 9th, Phils now down 3-2, back to the Bronx for games 6 (and hopefully 7)). It's 8:30 and the boys are all in bed (although all still quite awake).
A picture of the current bedtime routine - fairly typical these days (although Annabel was prob. wishing i had gotten things started ~15 minutes earlier than i did, given that the "fall back" from daylight savings just happened yesterday):
I got bath going a little after 7, and all three boys eventually came upstairs and got in the water. J&D like to get their own hair wet (sticking their heads under - often having contests to see who can do it longer), i wash their hair while they take turns trying to make Tyler mad.
After the boys get out, D&J usually have to be reminded multiple times to get dressed, while they run around naked in their room, usually either wrestling or scoring pretend football touchdowns. Dillon is still using a pullup at night.
Normally, we roll right into storytime after bath/teethbrushing, but with the world series on, we let the boys go back downstairs. Dillon in particular is still quite obsessed with watching sports in general, and especially the baseball playoffs. Jackson also likes it but not at the same level (tonight J spent most of his time in the art room working on some "home mail").
I watched Tyler do the entire "animal puzzle" - a 100 piece puzzle with pictures of every animal from A to Z on it. He's been pretty actively doing this puzzle for several weeks now, and at this point he can do it all by himself - the only help you need to provide is helping turn all the pieces over so the picture side is facing up. It's pretty amazing how he can do it - he scans the available pieces and can pretty easily identify a piece that will fit in one of the open spots.
As a catchup, Tyler has been very interested in puzzles for months - i'd guess that he started doing puzzles early this year. For the past ~4+ months he's been able to do a United States puzzle entirely by himself - filling in the outer frame, then all the individaul state pieces (usually starting in the west and moving east).
Jackson also lost his second lower-middle tooth tonight. It was amazing - i came home at dinner time, and it was basically laying horizontal in his mouth. He kept twisting it, although that would hurt too much. Annabel got up with him and grabbed the tooth with a paper towel and started to count to 3. At 1, she felt the tooth break free, and then J started to cry. She asked "did that hurt?" and he said, "no, i'm just scared that it will hurt when you pull it out after you count to 3!" ... at which time she showed him that it had already come out and he stopped crying and said "Oh!" He's very excited for this next visit from the tooth fairy, even though he knows that the second visit is only $1 (after the $2 special first tooth visit he received several weeks or a month ago).
